1. Purpose
The purpose of this to lay down the procedure for the operation of Multi Grade Filter.
2. Scope
The procedure covers the operation & backwash of Multi Grade Filter to the formulation plant of a Pharmaceutical Company
3. Procedure
- Ensure that Multi Grade Filter ( MGF) feed pump suction and discharge valve is in open condition
- Open MGF inlet valve, Air release valve, and rinse outlet valve. when all the air is released close air release valve.
- From the rinse outlet valve allow water to drain
- Rinse the water for 5 minutes & check the water quality, if ok open the service outlet valve.
- The unit will come into operation
- Check the filter inlet & outlet pressure across the filter; differential pressure shall not be more than 1Kg/cm2
Following steps shall be followed for stopping the Multi Grade Filter:
- Off MGF feed pump
- Close MGF inlet & MGF outlet valve
- Open MGF air release valve to depressurize the unit
Backwash of MGF
- Ensure that Multi Grade Filter ( MGF) backwash pump suction and discharge valve is in open condition
- Close the MGF inlet & MGF outlet valve
- Open backwash inlet & outlet valve
- Start the Backwash pump and set flow 1.5 times of service flow rate.
- After a specified duration of 10 minutes or when water in drain sump is clear, close the backwash inlet & outlet valve
- Stop backwash pump
Backwash of MGF
- Ensure that Multi Grade Filter ( MGF) feed pump suction and discharge valve is in open condition
- Open MGF inlet valve, Air release valve, and rinse outlet valve.
- Start MGF feed pump
- When all the air is released close air release valve.
- Rinse the water for 5 minutes & check the water quality, if ok open the service outlet valve.
- The unit will come into operation
